A Framework to Quantify the Overestimations of Static WCET Analysis
نویسندگان
چکیده
To reduce complexity while computing an upper bound on the worst-case execution time, static WCET analysis performs over-approximations. This feeds the general feeling that static WCET estimations can be far above the real WCET. This feeling is strengthened when these estimations are compared to measured execution times: generally, it is very unlikely to capture the worstcase from observations, then the difference between the highest watermark and the proven WCET upper bound might be considerable. In this paper, we introduce a framework to quantify the possible overestimation on WCET upper bounds obtained by static analysis. The objective is to derive a lower bound on the WCET to complement the upper bound. 1998 ACM Subject Classification C.3 Computer Systems Organization – Special-Purpose and Application-Based Systems – Real-Time and Embedded Systems

متن کاملReducing WCET Overestimations by Correcting Errors in Loop Bound Constraints
In order to reduce overestimations of worst-case execution time (WCET), in this article, we firstly report a kind of specific WCET overestimation caused by non-orthogonal nested loops. Then, we propose a novel correction approach which has three basic steps. The first step is to locate the worst-case execution path (WCEP) in the control flow graph and then map it onto source code. The second st...
متن کاملA Modular & Retargetable Framework for Tree-Based WCET Analysis
A fundamental requirement for hard real-time systems is the knowledge of tasks worst case execution times (WCET). Static worst-case execution time analysis (WCET analysis), thanks to the static analysis of a piece of source code, returns an upper bound of the time required to execute it on a given hardware. Taking into account modern architectural features makes it possible to determine tight W...
متن کاملClustering Worst-Case Execution Times for Software Components
For component-based systems, classical techniques for Worst-Case Execution Time (WCET) estimation produce unacceptable overestimations of a components WCET. This is because software components more general behavior, required in order to facilitate reuse. Existing tools and methods in the context of Component-Based Software Engineering (CBSE) do not yet adequately consider reusable analyses. We ...
متن کاملA framework for simulate synchronous reactive programs and measure execution times to aid WCET analysis
Obtaining Worst Case Execution Time (WCET) is essential for systems with timing requirement. This is because the violation of such requirement may lead to catastrophic results in safety critical systems. WCET can be acquired through static or dynamic analyses. With static analysis, it is less obvious to observe the timing behaviors of the analyzed system during its actual execution. While dynam...
